21. Beating C honestly

The comparisons against C are measurements, and a measurement needs an instrument. Chapter 20’s wolf bench diff is that instrument, and this edition does not carry chapter 20 either. The claims this chapter exists to test — that safe wolf matches hand-restrict C on the same kernel, that a region beats malloc discipline, that checked arithmetic’s real cost is small and dated — are the book’s most falsifiable, and printing them without CI’s numbers behind them would make them advertising. The section numbers are reserved and the pages are not written.

Where the book does compare against C, it compares programs rather than speeds: chapters 26, 27, and 28 print a C twin beside each wolf version and count the lines, and §26.5 and §32.3 say where the C is better.
